Meet The Board

Craig Maitland

Treasurer | Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation

Craig Maitland has spent more than 25 years building something in Western New York — first in the automotive industry, then in customer service and sales, and for the last 16 years as a GEICO agency owner in Buffalo. He knows what it takes to run an operation, earn trust, and show up for a community long after the excitement of getting started has worn off. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, and Economics from SUNY Empire State College, but the education that sticks most with him has come from working alongside people in his community for decades.

Golf found Craig the way it finds a lot of people — through a family connection that opened a door he didn't know was there. Once he walked through it, the sport gave him something he hadn't expected: a network, a sense of belonging, and eventually, a friendship with Ron Langhorne. Over the past five years, Craig has watched Ron pour everything he had into teaching young people — not just how to swing a club, but how to carry themselves. That kind of commitment is hard to fake, and Craig recognized it immediately.

What Craig brings to the Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation board isn't just a business mind — it's a track record of

Garrett Cunningham

Secretary | Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation

Garrett Cunningham serves as Secretary of the Board for the Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation, an organization dedicated to introducing golf to minority and inner-city youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the game and the life-changing lessons it provides.

Garrett’s connection to golf began at the age of eight when he learned the game from his father, much like Coach Ron Langhorne did. The connection runs even deeper: both of their fathers learned the game from the same mentor while working at General Motors many years ago. What began as a shared foundation in golf would later become a meaningful connection to a mission focused on opening doors for young people through the sport.

As a young golfer, Garrett benefited from the efforts of organizations such as the Jim Horne Foundation, which helped expand his exposure to the game and its opportunities. Those experiences shaped not only his love for golf but also his belief in the power of mentorship and access. Today, he is honored to help continue that legacy, ensuring that young people from all backgrounds are given the same opportunity to discover the game and the possibilities it can create.

Throughout his life, Garrett has been deeply committed to mentoring young men and women. Whether through his work with nonprofit organizations or through educational programs focused on communication, leadership, and personal development, he has consistently invested in helping youth build confidence, character, and the skills needed to succeed in life.

For Garrett, golf has always been about much more than a scorecard. It teaches patience, discipline, perseverance, and, above all, humility. It creates opportunities to build meaningful relationships, develop character, and gain experiences that can shape a young person’s future in profound ways. He believes that one introduction to the game can spark confidence, open unexpected doors, and change the trajectory of a life.

It is both a privilege and a joy for Garrett to serve as part of the Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation. He remains committed to helping the organization expand its impact and inspire the next generation, just as others once inspired and invested in him.

Founder & President | Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation

Ron Langhorne is a Buffalo, New York native, golf coach, entrepreneur, and community advocate committed to using the game of golf as a platform for youth development, mentorship, and expanded opportunity. As Founder and President of the Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation, Ron brings together his experience in golf instruction, nonprofit programming, community engagement, and youth mentorship to make the game more accessible to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it.

Ron's relationship with golf began at seven years old through the Inner City Youth Golf Program, founded by Major Hank Williams. Through the guidance of mentors like Jim Horne and the opportunities provided by the Jim Horne Golf Foundation, he developed a lifelong appreciation for the game and its ability to influence personal growth. Through this work, he gained valuable experience developing youth programming, building community relationships, and introducing young people to the game while incorporating lessons in character development, leadership, and life skills. He has also worked with community organizations and youth-serving partners, including the Western New York Resource Council, The Belle Center, and the Police Athletic League, helping expand access to golf and meaningful developmental experiences.

Through the Ron Langhorne Golf Foundation, Ron is working to build more than access to a sport. His vision is to create an environment where young people can develop confidence, discipline, emotional intelligence, financial awareness, social skills, and meaningful relationships that extend well beyond the golf course.

His philosophy is rooted in a simple belief: golf can be much more than a game. With the right guidance, resources, and opportunities, it can become a pathway to personal development, lifelong relationships, and a brighter future.
